October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and we at U2 Media Group have been honored to work with local organizations that are achieving major efforts toward this great cause.
One of these organizations is the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine. Debra Annane, Senior Research Manager, along with the rest of her team, composed a wonderful series of videos for Black women dealing with Breast Cancer, an effort known as Project CARE. The videos feature an abundance of resources ranging from ways to acquire the proper health team and treatment to the best ways to live both during and after treatment. Another UM project, intended for viewing in mammogram waiting rooms, informs all women getting mammograms about dense breast tissue and the role it plays in more accurate diagnostic testing.
The ultimate goal of Project CARE and the waiting room videos are to pass on useful and successful research information to the community via cost effective video production. The goal is to empower more women and to help them realize more inspired and beautiful lives. Having been a part of this project was no better expressed than by the project’s community recruiter, Arnetta Phillips, “I’ve learned so much since I’ve been in this project. It’s touched my heart, learning and being around women going through so much, and I’m having the opportunity to walk that walk with them. I’m honored and I’m blessed. I’m grateful.”
We also had the opportunity to work with the Glam-A-THON squad. Glam-A-THONs are events held in the Fort Lauderdale area that strive to fundraise and provide assistance to South Florida women battling Breast Cancer. Since 2011, the Glam-A-THON team, led by President and Founder Tammy Gail, has raised over $250,000 for the Broward Health Foundation and provided a great amount of care. This hip organization aims to reinvent and reinvigorate the traditional Breast Cancer Organization by hosting a range of glamorous and outrageous events year round. Their next event is the Glam Doll Strut to be held on October 18th in Esplanade Park, Fort Lauderdale. If you ask me, Glam-A-THON is doing wonders in their acclaimed quest to “Kiss Cancer Goodbye!”
It has been a great privilege to have worked with these inspiring organizations that are doing wonderful things for this important cause. We at U2 Media find great honor in working with those who strive to make a difference and better the world we live in!
